Ethiopian Airlines was founded on 30th December 1945, initially with the contractual assistance of TWA. The first planes used by the airline were five DC-3's. The first international scheduled service was inaugurated between Addis Ababa and Cairo on April 8, 1946.
 
Fifty years ago, we were barely a ripple. But, like any self respecting ripple, we had bigger ideas. Initially the effects were only felt closer to home, as we went about building Africa's most extensive network. Today, we have almost 50 international destinations, spread across 4 continents.Ethiopia is ...our home, but we're spreading our wings. We fly to a growing number of destinations throughout Ethiopia, across Africa and on to Europe, the U.S, Asia and the Middle East.
 
We are proud of our African heritage, and believe that it adds a special touch to comfort and efficiency that characteristics the modern Ethiopian Airlines. The Frequent Flyer Programme : With the most extensive pan-African network of any airline, and flights to numerous international destinations across Europe, the U.S., Asia and the Middle East, members will have ample opportunities to accumulate miles quickly. Membership is free, you need only be a frequent flyer on Ethiopian to qualify. Once you have become a member, simply show your "ShebaMiles" card at the time of reservation, ticketing, booking and check-in. We will keep account of the miles you earn, in accordance with the type of fare paid and the class of travel, regularly updating you of mileage entitlement.
